Longview ISD is proud to announce that Longview High School assistant football coach Josh Rankin has been selected to the inaugural Texas 50, a statewide honor recognizing the top assistant coaches across Texas high school football by Taylor Collective.
Rankin was chosen by a selection committee of some of the most respected names in Texas football, including Todd Dodge, Scott Surratt, D.W. Rutledge, and Dr. Charles Breithaupt. The Texas 50 recognizes assistant coaches from classifications 1A through 6A who demonstrate excellence in player development, program leadership, and community impact.
“Assistant coaches are essential to the success and stability of high school programs across Texas,” said Dr. Charles Breithaupt, chair of the Texas 50 selection committee.
For Longview ISD, Rankin’s recognition comes as no surprise.
“Coach Rankin is the kind of leader every program hopes to have,” said Longview ISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach John King. He pours into our student-athletes every single day, not just developing them as football players, but as young men. His consistency, his work ethic, and the relationships he builds are a huge part of what makes Longview football special. This recognition is well deserved.”
The Texas 50 is a new statewide initiative designed to elevate the role of assistant coaches and connect top talent across Texas. In addition to recognition, honorees will participate in a virtual Master Class Series in April and attend a capstone event on June 17 in Waco.
Rankin is one of just 50 assistant coaches selected statewide and represents Longview ISD among the best in Texas.
“Coach Rankin’s impact reaches far beyond the field,” said Coach King. “He’s a difference-maker in our locker room, in our classrooms, and in our community.”
The Texas 50 is presented by The Taylor Collective, an organization focused on developing and supporting coaches and programs across the state. For Longview ISD, the honor reflects the strength of its athletic programs and the people who make them successful.
