Haynes King speaking

Longview High School graduate and former Lobo quarterback Haynes King was honored Tuesday during a special Rotary Club of Longview luncheon celebrating his accomplishments and the pride he continues to bring to his hometown.

King, who led the Lobos to a perfect 16-0 season and Class 6A Division II state championship in 2018, returned home as one of East Texas’ most celebrated athletes. Now preparing for the NFL Draft, he was recognized for both his athletic success and the way he has represented Longview throughout his career.

During the program, King received special recognition from Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt, Longview Mayor Kristen Ishihara and the office of state Rep. Jay Dean. He was also presented a flag that had been flown over the Texas State Capitol. In addition, the Rotary Club of Longview presented King with the Paul Harris Award.

Haynes King proclamation

April 21, 2026, was also proclaimed Haynes King Day in both Gregg County and the city of Longview.

King’s recent honors include being named the 2025 ACC Player of the Year, ACC Offensive Player of the Year, first-team All-ACC and recipient of the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. His success at Georgia Tech followed a standout high school career at Longview, where he became one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in program history.

The event featured special music from the Longview High School Lobo Band under the direction of Rhonda Daniel. Past Rotary Club President Jon Cromer also led a discussion with King about his football journey, his time at Georgia Tech and the roots that continue to keep him connected to Longview.

For Longview ISD and the Longview community, the recognition was about more than football. It was a chance to celebrate one of their own, whose work ethic, character and leadership continue to reflect the best of Longview.
