Longview ISD celebrated a milestone moment for Longview High School’s Class of 2026 with a ceremonial beam signing following the district’s Decision Day rehearsal, honoring student achievement and the community support behind it.

The beam, which will be placed in early summer in the new Career and Technical Education Facility named after former campus principal James P. Brewer, will serve as a lasting symbol of the Class of 2026’s legacy. Though it will remain hidden from view, it will forever be part of the structure. Seniors gathered in the breezeway next to Mickey Melton Auditorium to sign the beam with paint markers, leaving their mark on Longview High School history.

“This beam represents more than steel and structure. It represents the hopes, hard work, and determination of the Class of 2026,” said Longview High School Principal Shameika Allen. “Each signature tells a story of perseverance, growth, and the collective spirit that defines Longview High School.”

After students signed, members of the district’s bond oversight committee, superintendent’s cabinet, and Board of Trustees who were in attendance added their signatures. Representatives from SCI Construction and PROCEDEO also joined the ceremony, reflecting the broad partnership behind the bond project and Longview ISD’s continued investment in student opportunity.

“When this beam is placed in early summer, it will become a permanent reminder that the Class of 2026 helped shape the future of Longview High School,” superintendent Dr. Marla Sheppard said. “This moment reflects the pride of our students and the strength of a community that continues to invest in them.”

The ceremony concluded with commemorative group photos alongside the signed beam, capturing the significance of the moment and the collective pride surrounding the project.

Samuel Kington, Chief of Operations and Facilities for Longview ISD, said the beam signing gave students a meaningful opportunity to become part of the campus’s future.

“This was a meaningful opportunity for students to leave their mark on a project that represents the future of Longview High School,” Kington said. “Even though the beam will eventually be hidden from view, it will remain a lasting symbol of the Class of 2026 and the pride this community has in its students.”
