Longview High School’s Lobo Band earned its 77th consecutive First Division rating Saturday, Oct. 17, at the UIL Region 21 Marching Contest at Hallsville High School Stadium, extending a tradition of excellence that spans generations of Lobo musicians.
All three judges awarded the Big Green Marching Machine a First Division rating, giving the band a final Division I (Superior) result. The milestone recognizes this year’s students while adding another chapter to one of Longview ISD’s most enduring fine arts traditions.
“Our students understand the tradition they are carrying forward, and they have worked hard to make this year’s performance their own,” said Rhonda Daniel, director of bands at Longview High School. “Earning our 77th consecutive First Division rating reflects the preparation and commitment they bring to rehearsal every day. I am proud of their growth and grateful for the families, directors, and community members who support them.”
The result builds on the program’s 76th consecutive First Division rating in 2025. Each new class of musicians takes its place in that history, learning the precision, musical discipline, and responsibility to one another that a strong marching performance requires.

“Seventy-seven consecutive First Division ratings is an extraordinary accomplishment for our students and for Longview ISD,” said Superintendent Dr. Marla Sheppard. “We celebrate the musicians who earned this honor and the educators and families who helped them reach it. Their achievement shows what is possible when students have meaningful opportunities to develop their talents and a community that believes in them.”
Beyond the contest result, the milestone highlights the role of music education in helping students develop confidence, work toward shared goals, and take pride in representing their school and community.

“The Lobo Band gives our students a place to grow as musicians and as leaders,” said Shameika Allen, Longview High School principal. “This milestone reflects the dedication of our students and the care our educators put into helping them succeed, and it shows why Longview High School was named a 2026 Best Schools for Music Education Award winner by The NAMM Foundation. We are proud to celebrate a program that brings generations of Lobos together through music.”
Longview ISD congratulates the Lobo Band and its directors on the 77th consecutive First Division rating and thanks the families, alumni, and supporters who help sustain the program’s tradition.
