August Board Meeting

At the regular board meeting on Monday, August 25, the trustees approved numerous actions. Here is a short summary of actions taken, with links to more information.

Lower tax rate, balanced budget

  • They approved a balanced $106.3 million budget for 2025–26 and set a total tax rate of $1.1299 per $100 valuation (down from $1.1399 last year).

LIFT program updated

  • Updates were approved to the Longview Incentive for Teachers (LIFT) program, which provides locally funded rewards for educators and administrators whose work produces measurable student achievement.

In other business

During the course of the meeting, the Board of Trustees also:

  • APPROVED Longview High School Choir's request for a 2026 senior trip to Orlando, contingent on fundraising;

  • APPROVED the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraisers list for the new school year;

  • APPROVED purchase of network switching upgrades at Everhart, Bailey, Ware, and Bramlette elementaries;

  • UPDATED policies on library materials selection and University Interscholastic League (UIL) participation;

  • RENEWED the annual crossing guard contract with the City of Longview;

  • APPROVED waiving penalties/interest on two property tax accounts;

  • AUTHORIZED the 2025–26 Board Time Use Tracker, and

  • APPROVED Budget Amendment No. 12.
