Longview ISD welcomed more than 240 community members, partners, and educators to its inaugural State of the District Luncheon at the Infinity Event Center, where Superintendent Dr. Marla Sheppard delivered her first district-wide address as superintendent.
"This event is not a capstone, it is a launching pad. We celebrate the progress behind us even as we fix our eyes on the horizon, committed to greater opportunity and stronger partnerships for every child," said Dr. Marla Sheppard.
As the first event of its kind, the luncheon placed a strong spotlight on Longview ISD’s future-focused vision showcasing the Elevate 2030 Strategic Plan, featuring student performances, campus highlights, and recognition of district partners. The program underscored the district’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement.
Dr. Sheppard’s inaugural remarks reflected both pride in recent achievements and bold aspirations for the future. She showcased district accomplishments, from national recognition for Hudson PEP Elementary and Forest Park Middle School to innovative programs at LEAD Academy High School and Clarence W. Bailey Elementary School. She emphasized Longview ISD’s mission to expand opportunities for all students and strengthen partnerships across the East Texas community.
"When a campus in Longview earns national distinction, it is not an isolated victory. It is proof that our collective work is bearing fruit, and that excellence can flourish here in East Texas," said Dr. Marla Sheppard.
The luncheon celebrated Longview ISD’s diverse student talent, featuring powerful performances from the Hudson PEP Choir, a Forest Park Middle School singer, J.L. Everhart Magnet Elementary Step Team, and the world-renowned Longview High School Lobo Choir.
The entire program was led and emceed by students, a reflection of Longview ISD’s commitment to fostering student leadership at every level. Attendees were also greeted with an immersive showcase of district talent and innovation: decorated tables from each campus highlighted their unique achievements, while hands-on displays spotlighted the wide variety of Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways available to students. Each table was staffed by students, giving guests the chance to hear directly from those living the Longview ISD experience.
"Our students are not just part of the program. They are the program. Every song sung, every step performed, every achievement honored today reminds us why we exist as a district," said Dr. Marla Sheppard.
The inaugural event was made possible through support from community partners, including the Longview ISD Foundation and sponsors such as the City of Longview, Credit Union of Texas, Longview Regional Medical Center, and PROCEDEO.
