7th grade art students at Foster are learning the art of Pointillism using oil pastels, practicing their Risk Taking and Reflective IB character traits. For their Winter Landscape Art Unit, students are drawing upon their science expertise. After a class discussion of adaptations animals have to survive cold harsh winter environments, students researched animals with those capabilities. Selecting their favorite winter creature, students analyzed the landscapes they call home. Next students learned about artists George's Seurat and Vincent Van Gogh and the unique art style they applied to their pieces - pointillism - applying tiny dots or dashes of different color beside one another to create the illusion of a blended color such as blue and yellow side by side the create the appearance of green. Students are making their own color wheel to use for reference to apply their pointillism color technique to their final drawing of their Winter Animal Landscape paying attention to add shadows and highlights to create the illusion of depth and 3D form on their flat 2D paper surface. With the tapping of the oil pastels, the studio sounds like a rainstorm of creativity!

Foster 6th graders dove into force, motion, and energy firsthand during an exciting trip to the REO Skateplex! From testing how speed changes with different surfaces to feeling the effects of friction and momentum as they skated, students turned scientific concepts into real-world experiences. Their laughter, curiosity, and even a few crashes made this hands-on learning adventure one they wonโ€™t forget!

Longview ISDโ€™s G/T program is designed for students who demonstrate advanced abilities, creativity, leadership, or exceptional academic potential. Our goal is to support their unique learning needs and challenge them in meaningful ways.

Attention Foster Families!!
Longview ISD is launching a Holiday Food Drive Challenge to support our students and families in need this season. The competition begins immediately and will run through December 17th.
How the Challenge Works
Each campus will collect non-perishable food items throughout the drive.
To ensure every campus has an equal opportunity to win, results will be measured using a per-capita format. This means that the food collected at the campus will be divided by the number of students at each campus to ensure all campuses have an equal chance at the prizes.
The campus with the highest per-capita collection rate will win:
An 85-inch Smartboard, and
A Gaming Party for the students on that campus.

๐Ÿ“ฃ FMS Parents & Guardians Tomorrow and Wednesday morning, ALL students should report to Foster Middle School as we will be completing our Middle-of-Year iReady Diagnostic Assessment. ๐Ÿง  What is the iReady Diagnostic? The iReady Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that helps us understand each studentโ€™s current skill level in Reading and Math. It isnโ€™t a graded test โ€” instead, it adjusts to your childโ€™s responses to pinpoint what they already know and what theyโ€™re ready to learn next. This information helps teachers tailor instruction and provide the right supports to help every Dragon grow. โœ”๏ธ Please help us by: โ€ข Ensuring your child gets a good nightโ€™s rest โ€ข Making sure they arrive on time โ€ข Encouraging them to do their best Thank you for partnering with us as we work to support every studentโ€™s success! โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ‰

Happy Thanksgiving

For the first time in Foster history, we have a student who has advanced to the State LDE contest! Miley Orozco is the AREA CHAMPION in Greenhand Spanish Creed Speaking. She will now compete at Sam Houston State University as one of the Top 24 contestants in this event. Her competition will range from schools all across the state of Texas. Please congratulate her when you get the chance!

Additionally, we had three other FFA members compete yesterday. Although we did not get the results we wanted, these students have been working INCREDIBLY HARD to get to this point and I couldnโ€™t be more proud. Itโ€™s tough competition at Area, with the competition being the Top 3 teams in each event from Longview District, Mineola District, Paris District, and Daingerfield District - basically all of North East/East Texas.

8th Place in Greenhand English Creed Speaking: Mario Barrios

11th Place in Greenhand FFA Quiz: Tatum Duey and Breanna Scott

We are so proud of these students and all their hard work!!! Go Dragons!
