Foster Middle School Families,

Tomorrow, all FMS students will take their STAAR Reading Simulation test. We will conduct this assessment using official STAAR testing procedures, as it is more formal than our common campus assessments.

Please note the following important information:
-Any students who normally report to the high school campus must report to Foster Middle School tomorrow.
-Our campus will be closed to visitors and shut down for testing.
-Please make every effort to ensure your child arrives on time and remains at school for the entire day.
-Dress code will be strictly enforced. Blankets, pillows, Crocs, slides, and stuffed animals will not be permitted.

We ask that you emphasize the importance of this assessment with your child. The data from this simulation will help us determine any additional needs and supports for students during the remainder of the school year.

On Thursday, we will follow the same structured testing schedule for Science. Eighth grade students will take their STAAR Science Simulation, while sixth and seventh grade students will complete their middle-of-year exam.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in helping our students succeed.

The Kilgore College Upward Bound program (UB) provides support for income-eligible and first-generation high school students in preparation for college entry. The goal of UB is to increase the high school graduation rate and the number of students who enroll in and graduate from college. KC UB serves Kilgore HS, Longview HS, and Pine Tree HS. We serve 50 students total per year.

We provide a number of services, including academic and personal counseling, assistance with college searches and application/admissions processes, academic study skills, and more. We have a variety of programming each year, including a 6-week summer academic program, college campus visits, cultural experiences, and volunteer opportunities.

We’re looking for students to join our program beginning in Summer 2026! Our focus right now is on 2026-27 (rising) freshmen and sophomores, but we can also consider (rising) juniors and seniors who demonstrate need for services.

Qualifications for Upward Bound:

United States citizen or Permanent Resident

High school student at Kilgore, Longview, or Pine Tree High School

Between ages 13 to 19 (at time of first service)

First-generation (neither parent/guardian has earned a bachelor’s degree)

Income-eligible per federal standards (based on most recent tax year)

Minimum 2.5 GPA on 4.00 scale (must maintain to remain in program)

The 2026-27 application can be completed online. A complete application requires both the student application and a parent application. Paper applications are available upon request.

Student App: https://botform.compansol.com/230943977318871

Parent App: https://botform.compansol.com/231063616405145

Please feel free to reach out if you need any further information! UB staff are available to visit with students and their parents to discuss the program, provide more information, etc.
